Depression has many faces, some of which don’t look how we expect them to. Depression can manifest as debilitating grief and sadness like the kind where you can’t get out of bed, or it can make you feel numb and closed off to the world and those around you. It can make you irritable or prickly and sometimes it shows up as anger or boredom. All of these expressions are uncomfortable at best, extremely painful or debilitating at worst. Depression can dull your senses, cloud your judgment and make connections with others extremely difficult. In fact, it can make just about anything difficult. Depression can also be confusing, especially if you are not sure why you feel the way you do.
Symptoms of depression include: sadness, irritability, difficulty sleeping, too much sleeping, lethargy, anger, lack of confidence, emotional numbness, boredom, feelings of hopelessness and/or helplessness, thoughts of suicide, loss of appetite, overeating, somatic symptoms, fatigue and restlessness.
